fishing with strangers (on the web!)
Addendum: 2025/11/08 - After almost 250 hours now, I've decided on calling it quits with the game.
The game, Webfishing, has been taking over my life the past couple of days. I have an unhealthy amount of hours clocked into it already.
From catching big fish to small fish to unlocking silly shirts and hats (I <3 Peeing my beloved).
I've been talking a lot to random strangers online, most of which have been brief and somewhat lengthy conversations. Some highlights include (in chronological order):
- the rise of skibidi toilet
- not liking the French (/j)
- meeting Texans (y'all are cool)
- meeting Brits, and particularly having a lengthy conversation about me not owning a rice cooker with a fellow Scot, (which is always lovely to see)
- learning how to say "fish" in Finnish (kala), and "whale" (valas)
- why timezones kind of suck for most people
- discovering the three out of bounds voids of the world: black, ocean and white
- coming across and talking to void cat, otherwise known as entity, a being in which slowly roams the world, dawning no username
- a ramble about starting to get into art
- tips and tricks about how to catch the elusive Golden Bass
- meeting more Texans
- wondering if Jesus used /godmode whenever he walked on water
- why Jesus didn't take advantage of an active item duplication glitch that wasn't patched during his time, to make millions of potential seeds for farms
- the history of usernames that were made when you were younger, and how they've evolved over time (or maybe haven't!)
- the looming period of awaiting on the US election results, talking with some Americans about how they feel overall with it
- encountering an alien-cat hybrid called "gorp" (:}), who taught a few words from their universe
For my first week of playing the game and encountering strangers, it's been an absolute delight. The game is still early days and has a few stand-out bugs. Mainly related to the optimization and the occasional chat de-sync, but the developer is hard at work on ironing them out! I've been taking so many screenshots of little interactions along with abusing the hell out of the photo mode! Some of which I might append to this post in the future.
Who knew fishing with strangers could be so fun?
